Beliefs and DietiesThe beliefs in the Norse religion is broken into two parts; the belief in other supernatural forces and the belief in Pagan gods.
The gods were also split into two families: Aesir and the Vani, and the supernatural forces were made up of lanavaetir (guardian of spirits of the land) and natturavaetir (the spirit of nature). Gods and GoddessesOdin- Father of all gods, Odin is the king of Asgard, the ruler of Aesir and the God of war, death, knowledge and wisdom. Odin only has one eye after he traded his other for a sip from Mimir's Well of Wisdom. This occured during his visit to the amazing World Tree. The Eye enables Mimir to focus on four distant events, giving Odin the ability to look and see far ahead.
Thor- Thor is the god of thunder and is the son of Odin. He is one of the most powerful gods and is married to Sifia; the fertility goddess. Frigg- Frigg is the wife of Odin and is one of the foremost goddesses in the Norse Mythology. She is the patron of marriage and motherhood and the goddess of love and fertility. Tyr- Tyr is the original Germanic God of war and justice, the precursor of Odin. During the viking age, Tyr had to make way for Odin, who became the god of war himself. |
