RitualsThere were no priests in Norse religion. local chiefs led worship and made sacrifices.
One of the rituals that the Nordic religion people performed was that the Vikings practiced human sacrifice. Legend says that Odin crucified himself on the World tree for nine nights to receive wisdom. King Aun sacrificed nine of his own sons to Odin to swap for a longer life. Every nine years, a festival was at the great temple to the Gods at Uppsala in Sweden during which a sacrifice was made to the gods of nine males of every living thing from dogs and cows to human beings. |

There was also evidence of a burial ritual. Nordic warriors were often buried with girls in the belief that those women would become the warriors wives in the afterlife. In a traditional chief’s funeral his body was placed on a boat with all of his possessions, and the boat was set alight (like the photo above). Although little is known about worship and places of worship.
